Supabase Sees Valuation Surge to $10B in Just 8 Months

Supabase, a leading open-source database within the vibe coding community, has successfully raised $500 million in its Series F funding round, resulting in a pre-money valuation of $10 billion. Following this investment, the company’s valuation is expected to rise to around $10.5 billion.

This newly established decacorn has seen its market valuation double approximately every few months over the last couple of years, fueled by the growing adoption of vibe coding tools that have accelerated its growth by over 600% in the past year. CEO and co-founder Paul Copplestone noted in a blog post that over 60% of newly introduced databases are linked to “some sort of AI tool.”

With nearly 10 million developers now utilizing its platform, Supabase has seen its user base double within just eight months. Copplestone attributes this remarkable growth to Claude Code and Codex, emphasizing how these well-known AI models “broaden the pool of individuals who can build.” Additionally, Supabase has emerged as a go-to database for companies such as Bolt, Figma, Lovable, Replit, and many others.

This recent capital infusion follows a $100 million funding round that valued the company at $5 billion back in October, which came just a few months after raising $200 million at a $2 billion valuation.

Built on the widely-used open-source Postgres database, Supabase aims to alleviate the maintenance workload for developers and vibe coders as their applications grow in scale and attract users.

Recently, it unveiled a tool named Multigres, which is referred to as an “operating system” for Postgres. This tool is designed to simplify the management complexities of Postgres at scale, offering developers a unified method to oversee crucial tasks such as read replicas, failovers, connection limits, backups, and more.

Another interesting aspect of the company involves the choices made by Copplestone throughout its development. In a November episode of the Equity podcast, he discussed how he steered clear of what he called the “sh*tification” of developer tools, choosing not to accommodate enterprises with multi-million-dollar contracts that place product demands. Instead, he remains true to his distinctive product vision, challenging traditional startup methodologies while finding significant success with Supabase.

The funding round was spearheaded by GIC, with support from existing investors such as Stripe and new contributors Georgian and Salesforce Ventures.
