Apple’s Photos App Unveils Exciting New AI Editing Features

At WWDC 2026 on Monday, Apple announced that its Photos app will incorporate a range of new AI functionalities powered by Apple Intelligence.

A new spatial “Reframe” feature will empower users to leverage AI for image adjustments. For instance, if a photo accidentally captures a sign above someone’s head or if a more balanced frame could have been achieved by shifting right, this reframing tool can address those issues.

Users can click and drag images to change the perspective as if they had moved the camera from the original position. They can also view a real-time preview of these changes. As the image is adjusted, a blur will appear around the edges of the original photo, which will later be filled in by Apple’s generative models.

This feature solely generates new elements to fill the voids caused by perspective alterations, maintaining coherence with the original scene.

The “Extend” tool allows users to broaden images, giving subjects more room or straightening a crooked horizon without omitting important details. Users can pinch to zoom out or adjust the crop to incorporate more of the scene.

Additionally, the app’s popular “Cleanup” tool is being upgraded to assist users in removing distractions more effectively, featuring enhanced quality and more realistic infills through generative AI. This functionality allows users to tap, brush, or circle the elements they wish to delete.
