Tailor Siri’s Speed and Expressiveness in the Latest iOS 27 Beta

With the latest iOS 27 developer beta, Apple is giving testers an early look at a highly anticipated upgrade for its AI-driven Siri: the ability to adjust the speed and expressiveness of the assistant’s voice. Today, in the release of iOS 27 beta 3, Apple has enabled the voice controls for “Pace” and “Expressivity,” which were previously labeled as “Coming soon” in the first developer beta versions.

This feature is part of Apple’s broader initiative to make Siri more relatable and personalized as they transform the assistant with generative AI. Similar to ChatGPT and other voice AI technologies, providing users the option to customize the AI’s vocal attributes is essential for fostering a connection with this evolving technology.

However, ChatGPT offers even more extensive voice customization options, having introduced capabilities to modify the AI’s warmth and enthusiasm back in December 2025. Users can select from diverse styles and tones, allowing the assistant to sound friendlier, more professional, candid, or quirky, among other characteristics. This adaptability is reflected not only in ChatGPT’s speech but also in its approach to sharing information.

First revealed at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 26) in June, Siri’s voice controls enable users to personalize their experience beyond just choosing a male or female voice. Beta testers can now pick from a range of voices with various accents and use sliders to modify both the speed of Siri’s speech and the level of human-like emotion it expresses.

As users make these adjustments, Siri will rehearse with common phrases like “You have one new message,” giving insight into how the different voices sound.

The AI-enhanced Siri is fully integrated into the latest iOS, allowing iPhone users to begin interactions by speaking, swiping down from the Dynamic Island at the upper part of the screen and typing, pressing the side button of the device, or even using the newly launched standalone Siri app.

Additionally, iOS 27 beta 3 introduces minor updates, including a refreshed Reminders app icon. It is noteworthy that some users on X have reported losing access to the updated Siri after their upgrade or experiencing their devices re-indexing data—a common preliminary step in fine-tuning Siri AI for search.
