AI Legal Startup Norm Raises $120M and Reaches Unicorn Valuation

On Tuesday, AI legal startup Norm revealed that it has raised $120 million in a Series C funding round spearheaded by Khosla Ventures, elevating the company’s valuation to $1.2 billion just under three years since its launch.

Norm has created an AI-enabled law firm, Norm Law, which combines its unique AI agents with human lawyers who supervise their operations, delivering legal services to corporate clients. Additionally, the firm is developing AI agents that can manage other AI agents in their responsibilities.

In a shift from typical industry practices, the company chooses to charge based on results instead of the standard hourly billing for its offerings.

Joining the trend of legal AI startups like Harvey and Legora, Norm aims to meet the increasing demand for automation in repetitive legal functions.

Other investors in Norm’s Series C round include Bain, Craft Ventures, Coatue, Vanguard, New York Life, TIAA, Tony James (former president and COO of Blackstone), Jeff Hammes (former chairman of Kirkland & Ellis), and Fenwick LLP. The new funds will support product development and the recruitment of additional lawyers.

Up until now, the company has successfully raised over $260 million in total funding.
