AI Legal Startup Norm Raises $120M, Reaches Unicorn Valuation
On Tuesday, AI legal startup Norm announced it has raised $120 million in a Series C funding round led by Khosla Ventures, increasing the company’s valuation to $1.2 billion just under three years after its founding.
Norm has created an AI-powered law firm, Norm Law, which employs its proprietary AI agents alongside human attorneys who supervise their activities to deliver legal services to corporate clients. Furthermore, the firm is developing AI agents that can oversee other AI agents in their operations.
Breaking away from conventional practices in the industry, the company chooses to charge based on results rather than traditional hourly billing for its services.
As part of the growing trend of legal AI startups, including Harvey and Legora, Norm seeks to meet the increasing need for automation in repetitive legal tasks.
Additional investors in Norm’s Series C round include Bain, Craft Ventures, Coatue, Vanguard, New York Life, TIAA, Tony James (former president and COO of Blackstone), Jeff Hammes (former chairman of Kirkland & Ellis), and Fenwick LLP. The new funding will support product development and the recruitment of more attorneys.
So far, the company has successfully raised over $260 million in total funding.
