Google Photos Unveils Innovative AI-Powered ‘Video Remix’ Feature

Google Photos has unveiled a new feature named “Video Remix,” which allows users to edit and enhance videos in just seconds, as disclosed by Google on Wednesday. This feature leverages Gemini Omni, Google’s newly launched model designed to “create anything from any input.”

This rollout is part of Google’s continuous efforts to embed more generative AI tools into its consumer applications, keeping in line with rivals such as Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. By integrating AI-powered video editing into Google Photos, the tech giant simplifies the editing experience, enabling users to refine clips with just a few taps and promoting deeper engagement with Google’s ecosystem.

You can access the Video Remix tool in the “Create” tab of Google Photos. It features cinematic relighting to brighten dark clips, background replacement, and various artistic styling options for videos, including effects like watercolor, raw sketch, and oil painting.

For example, you might change a video to appear as if it were filmed in a greenhouse, relight a clip with a gentle morning glow, or apply a watercolor effect.

“Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or lengthy editing sessions,” Google stated in a blog post. “With Video Remix in Google Photos, you can turn everyday videos into shareable moments in just a few taps.”

The Video Remix feature is rolling out today for eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.

This feature is part of a batch of AI-enhanced upgrades that Google Photos is recently introducing. The app has also revealed new touch-up tools for subtle edits, including removing blemishes, enhancing skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. Furthermore, Google has launched an AI-driven feature that transforms wardrobe photos into a digital closet, allowing users to generate new outfit combinations and try them on virtually.
