Bafana Coach Broos Expected Back from Belgium This Month Amid Resignation Speculation

Johannesburg – The allegations regarding Hugo Broos, the most successful coach of South Africa’s senior men’s national team, are completely baseless.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, the South African Football Association (SAFA) released a statement denying the rumors concerning Broos’s possible resignation as head coach of Bafana Bafana.

“Broos will continue as head coach of Bafana Bafana, and any competing statements are entirely false,” SAFA emphasized on X.

“This isn’t the first occasion rumors have surfaced about the Belgian coach’s possible exit following the senior national team’s achievements in international tournaments.”

“In March 2024, speculation arose about Broos potentially taking charge of the Tunisian national team shortly after Bafana Bafana claimed a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.”

Broos has just returned with the team from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they celebrated remarkable accomplishments during the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Bafana Bafana advanced to the second round of the tournament for the first time, securing a 1-0 victory over South Korea in their final group match in Monterrey, Mexico.

“The coach is currently in Belgium and is anticipated to return to South Africa later this month,” SAFA confirmed.
