Bafana Coach Broos Expected to Return from Belgium This Month Amid Speculation of Resignation

Johannesburg – The assertions about Hugo Broos, the most accomplished coach of South Africa’s senior men’s national team, lack any validity.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, the South African Football Association (SAFA) released a statement dismissing rumors that Broos had resigned as head coach of Bafana Bafana.

“Broos remains the head coach of Bafana Bafana, and any opposing statements are completely unfounded,” SAFA declared on X.

“This is not the first time rumors have arisen regarding the Belgian coach’s departure after the senior national team’s success in international competitions.

“In March 2024, speculation circulated about Broos potentially taking over the Tunisian national team immediately after Bafana Bafana secured bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.”

Broos has just returned with the squad from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where significant strides were made during the tournament hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Bafana Bafana moved on to the second round of the tournament for the first time, clinching a 1-0 victory against South Korea in their final group match in Monterrey, Mexico.

“The coach is currently in Belgium and is expected to return to South Africa later this month,” SAFA confirmed.
