Recovered: Stolen R2.2 Million Toyota Land Cruiser Discovered Near Beitbridge; One Suspect Arrested

A 46-year-old man has been apprehended following the recovery of a luxury car valued at over R2 million during a cross-border anti-smuggling operation in Limpopo.

The white Toyota Land Cruiser ZX, estimated to be worth around R2.2 million, was stopped on the N1 close to Makhado after authorities received tips indicating it was being transported from Gauteng for smuggling out of South Africa via the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

According to law enforcement, investigations into the theft of the vehicle and the suspected smuggling operation are ongoing.

The vehicle’s recovery was made possible through a united effort involving the Provincial Investigation Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, and multiple private security companies.

Officials reported that operational teams acted on intelligence indicating a potentially stolen vehicle was traveling north from Gauteng toward the Beitbridge border.

The Toyota Land Cruiser ZX was located on the N1 near Makhado, where officers stopped it to prevent any further movement.

Limpopo Authorities Apprehend Driver During Vehicle Inspection

Preliminary investigations revealed that the luxury SUV had been reported stolen in Benoni, Gauteng, on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

The 46-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is set to appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.

He is likely to face charges for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

This operation is part of continued efforts to tackle vehicle theft and cross-border smuggling networks that operate between South Africa and neighboring nations.

Law enforcement collaborated with private security partners, including ShadowSecure Security, Tracker Connect, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, Limpopo Tactical Security, and Bas Secure during this operation.
