Stolen R2.2 Million Toyota Land Cruiser Recovered Near Beitbridge; Suspect Arrested

A 46-year-old man has been apprehended following the discovery of a stolen luxury vehicle worth over R2 million during a cross-border anti-smuggling operation in Limpopo.

The white Toyota Land Cruiser ZX, valued at around R2.2 million, was halted on the N1 near Makhado after authorities received tips suggesting it was being moved from Gauteng for smuggling out of South Africa via the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

Police have stated that the investigation into the vehicle theft and the suspected smuggling network is still underway.

Stolen Toyota Land Cruiser Recovered During Anti-Smuggling Operation

The recovery was achieved through a coordinated effort involving the Provincial Investigation Unit, the Provincial Tracking Team, and various private security firms.

Law enforcement reported that operational teams acted on intelligence indicating that a suspected stolen vehicle was traveling north from Gauteng toward the Beitbridge border.

The Toyota Land Cruiser ZX was located on the N1 near Makhado, and officers intercepted the vehicle before it could advance any further.

Limpopo Police Detain Driver After Vehicle Inspection

Preliminary investigations revealed that the luxury SUV had been reported stolen in Benoni, Gauteng, on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

The 46-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.

He is anticipated to face charges for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and for driving without a valid license.

Police Persist in Investigation Into Possible Cross-Border Smuggling

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat vehicle theft and cross-border smuggling networks operating between South Africa and its neighboring countries.

Law enforcement collaborated with private security partners, including ShadowSecure Security, Tracker Connect, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, Limpopo Tactical Security, and Bas Secure during the operation.
