Recovered: Stolen R2.2 Million Toyota Land Cruiser Located Near Beitbridge; Suspect Arrested

A 46-year-old man has been apprehended following the discovery of a luxury vehicle valued at over R2 million during a cross-border anti-smuggling operation in Limpopo.

The white Toyota Land Cruiser ZX, estimated at around R2.2 million, was stopped on the N1 near Makhado after authorities received tips indicating it was being moved from Gauteng with the intent to smuggle it out of South Africa through the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

Law enforcement officials report that investigations into the vehicle’s theft and the alleged smuggling operations are currently in progress.

Stolen Toyota Land Cruiser Recovered in Anti-Smuggling Operation

The successful retrieval of the vehicle was made possible through a cooperative effort involving the Provincial Investigation Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, and various private security agencies.

Authorities mentioned that operational teams acted on intelligence suggesting a suspicious vehicle was heading north from Gauteng towards the Beitbridge border.

The Toyota Land Cruiser ZX was intercepted on the N1 near Makhado to halt any additional movement.

Limpopo Authorities Detain Driver During Vehicle Inspection

Initial investigations indicated that the luxury SUV had been reported stolen in Benoni, Gauteng, on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

The 46-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is set to appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.

He is expected to face charges for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Police Investigation Continues Into Possible Cross-Border Smuggling

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat vehicle theft and cross-border smuggling networks operating between South Africa and neighboring countries.

Law enforcement collaborated with private security partners, including ShadowSecure Security, Tracker Connect, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, Limpopo Tactical Security, and Bas Secure during this operation.
