Mofokeng Crowned Footballer of the Season as Pirates Dominate Individual Awards

Relebohile Mofokeng impressed at the 2025/26 PSL Awards on Monday night, culminating an outstanding season by clinching all major individual accolades.

The 21-year-old talent—who recently made a significant move to Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise—was honored for his crucial contribution to Orlando Pirates’ treble-winning campaign, earning the prestigious PSL Footballer of the Season award.

Furthermore, Mofokeng won both the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season awards, solidifying his status as South Africa’s top prospect ahead of his transition to Europe.

Unsurprisingly, league champions Orlando Pirates dominated the key awards. Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was recognized as Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, while Sipho Chaine, Lebone Seema, Oswin Appollis, and Camren Dansin received the Goalkeeper of the Season, Defender of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and Goal of the Season honors, respectively.

In cup competitions, veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet—who announced his retirement at season’s end—was named Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament for his vital contributions to Durban City’s impressive cup journey. Seluleko Mahlambi of TS Galaxy was honored as the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Former Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi received the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament award, while Tshepang Moremi, a winger for the Buccaneers, was honored with the MTN8 Last Man Standing title.

Cape Town City shined in the Motsepe Foundation Championship awards following their promotion drive, with Emile Witbooi, Gabriel Armato, and Mickey van der Hart recognized as Players’ Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, and Goalkeeper of the Season, respectively.

In the reserve league, standout performer Bennet Mokoena from Mamelodi Sundowns swept the DStv Diski Challenge awards, taking home both the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer titles.

Match officials were also recognized for their contributions throughout the season, with Eugene Mdluli earning the title of Referee of the Season and Nandipha Menze being awarded Assistant Referee of the Season.
