Global Memory Shortage Impacts MacBook Air Availability

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the global shortage of memory chips is affecting the availability of Apple’s best-selling Mac.

Gurman pointed out that this chip shortage — driven by demand from AI-focused firms — has already impacted Apple’s less-popular models, including the Mac mini and Mac Studio. However, it seems that Apple is now struggling to maintain stock levels for the MacBook Air, with retailers facing tighter supply constraints than ever before.

In fact, those looking to buy a MacBook Air on the Apple website will find wait times pushing into late August — and for select configurations, as far as September.

Gurman mentioned that Apple is responding to the situation by raising prices and sourcing memory from Chinese suppliers. Furthermore, the company has delayed its recent back-to-school promotion that was initially scheduled for June. For the first time, marketing efforts are spotlighting the base model of the MacBook Pro, accompanied by a warning: “MacBook Air subject to availability.”
