Global Memory Shortage Impacts MacBook Air Availability

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the global memory chip shortage is affecting the availability of Apple’s most popular Mac models.

Gurman pointed out that this chip shortage—driven by increased demand from AI-driven companies—has previously impacted Apple’s less favored models like the Mac mini and Mac Studio. However, Apple is currently struggling to keep inventory levels steady for the MacBook Air, with retailers experiencing notable supply challenges.

In fact, those looking to buy a MacBook Air on Apple’s website might face wait times pushing into late August, and for some configurations, possibly even September.

Gurman indicated that Apple is tackling the issue by raising prices and sourcing memory from Chinese suppliers. Additionally, the company has delayed its recent back-to-school marketing campaign, initially set for June. For the first time, the promotional efforts are centered around the base model of the MacBook Pro, accompanied by the note: “MacBook Air subject to availability.”
