Uber and Pony.ai on Track to Roll Out 2,000 Robotaxis Across Europe

Pony AI, a China-based firm specializing in autonomous vehicles, has partnered with Uber to introduce 2,000 robotaxis across four European cities as part of their enhanced collaboration.

This initiative underscores the aspirations of both companies to establish a significant presence in the rapidly expanding robotaxi market. Recently, Uber has engaged with over 30 partners within the autonomous vehicle industry, including Pony.ai. Concurrently, Pony.ai has successfully launched services in four cities across China and is working with local transportation authorities to foster the growth of its robotaxi services in Europe and the Middle East, including Qatar.

While Uber and Pony.ai have yet to announce a specific timeline for the rollout of these robotaxis or the specific cities involved, they have committed to sharing more details soon. This bolstered partnership seems to clarify several aspects, particularly regarding Pony.ai’s “joint-deployment model,” which is progressing towards full commercial viability.

In this collaboration, the Guangzhou-based company will supply the autonomous vehicle technology, while Uber will leverage its extensive ride-hailing network. Both companies have indicated that some elements of fleet management—such as maintenance, cleaning, and charging—might be handled by a local service provider, with the ownership structure of the robotaxi fleet potentially varying by region.

Uber and Pony.ai initially joined forces in May 2025, with a focus on the Middle Eastern market. Earlier this year, they redirected their attention to Europe, with plans to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, in collaboration with the local firm Verne.
