Uber and Pony.ai Prepare to Deploy 2,000 Robotaxis Across Europe

Pony AI, a Chinese company specializing in autonomous vehicles, has partnered with Uber to roll out 2,000 robotaxis across four cities in Europe as part of their enhanced collaboration.

This project underscores the goals of both firms to establish a significant presence in the fast-developing robotaxi market. Recently, Uber has formed partnerships with over 30 entities in the autonomous vehicle field, including Pony.ai. At the same time, Pony.ai has successfully commenced operations in four Chinese cities and has collaborated with local transport authorities to enable the expansion of its robotaxi services in Europe and the Middle East, including Qatar.

While Uber and Pony.ai have yet to disclose a definitive timeline for the deployment of these robotaxis or the specific cities they will cover, they have committed to releasing more information soon. The enhanced partnership appears to clarify several aspects, especially regarding Pony.ai’s “joint-deployment model,” which is advancing toward commercial viability.

In this partnership, the Guangzhou-based company will supply the autonomous vehicle technology, while Uber will leverage its extensive ride-hailing network. Both companies have indicated that aspects of fleet management—such as maintenance, cleaning, and charging—could be assigned to a local service provider, and the ownership structure of the robotaxi fleet may vary by market.

Uber and Pony.ai first collaborated in May 2025, initially focusing on the Middle East. Earlier this year, they redirected their efforts toward Europe, planning to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, in cooperation with the local firm Verne.
