Uber and Pony.ai Prepare to Roll Out 2,000 Robotaxis Throughout Europe

Pony AI, a Chinese producer of autonomous vehicles, has partnered with Uber to deploy 2,000 robotaxis across four cities in Europe as a part of their expanded collaboration.

This venture highlights the ambitions of both companies to establish a presence in the swiftly growing robotaxi sector. Recently, Uber has allied with over 30 firms in the autonomous vehicle landscape, including Pony.ai. At the same time, Pony.ai has successfully initiated operations in four Chinese cities and has collaborated with local transport authorities to enable the launch of its robotaxis in Europe and the Middle East, including Qatar.

While Uber and Pony.ai have yet to provide a definitive timeline for the rollout of these robotaxis or specify the launch cities, they have indicated that further information will be shared in due course. The enhanced collaboration appears to clarify several aspects, particularly regarding Pony.ai’s “joint-deployment model,” which is now progressing toward achieving commercial scalability.

Under this arrangement, the Guangzhou-based firm will supply the autonomous vehicle technology, while Uber will leverage its vast ride-hailing platform. According to both companies, responsibilities for fleet management—including maintenance, cleaning, and charging—might be delegated to a local service provider, and the ownership structure of the robotaxi fleet may vary by market.

Uber and Pony.ai initially partnered in May 2025, concentrating on the Middle East. Earlier this year, they redirected their focus to Europe, aiming to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, in partnership with the local company Verne.
