Woman Alleges Stepfather Manipulated Childhood Photo into Explicit Material Using Grok

A woman, referred to as Jane Doe 4, is now part of a lawsuit initiated by three teenagers from Tennessee against Elon Musk’s xAI. The lawsuit addresses concerns regarding the company’s chatbot Grok and its purported role in generating child sexual abuse material.

According to a report from The Washington Post, the woman alleges that her stepfather used Grok to manipulate a photograph of her taken when she was just 11 years old, leading to the creation of over 7,000 explicit images featuring her. She further revealed that her stepfather took his own life two days after law enforcement discovered the images during a raid.

“The rapid spread of these tools is deeply concerning,” the woman remarked. “Everyday life is being transformed into child sexual abuse.”

The teenagers who brought forth the lawsuit have accused xAI (which is now part of SpaceX) of failing to implement basic protections to stop Grok from being used to create explicit images of real individuals, including minors. Earlier in the year, X was overwhelmed with millions of sexually explicit images generated by Grok. They are seeking class action status for their lawsuit.

TechCrunch has reached out to xAI for their comments on the matter.
