Stripe Acquires OpenRouter, an AI Gateway Company, for Over $7 Billion

Bloomberg reports that Stripe has officially finalized its acquisition of OpenRouter.

OpenRouter offers a diverse selection of AI models tailored to meet the unique needs and financial situations of its clients. In May, the company disclosed it had secured $113 million in a Series B funding round, boosting its valuation to approximately $1.3 billion. Notable investors include Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Capital G, a division of Alphabet.

In the wake of the funding announcement, CEO Alex Atallah compared OpenRouter to Stripe within the AI sector, highlighting its function as a platform that simplifies various systems while reducing the dependency on multiple vendors. The startup boasts a global clientele of 8 million and provides access to over 400 AI models.

Recently, The Wall Street Journal disclosed that Stripe and OpenRouter were in discussions concerning a potential acquisition. Bloomberg has now verified that these negotiations have culminated in a deal valued at over $7 billion.

A representative from Stripe informed TechCrunch that the company refrains from commenting on speculation or rumors.
