Einride Finalizes Deal to Expand Fleet with 500 Tesla Semis

Einride, a Swedish firm focused on electric and autonomous freight transportation, revealed on Tuesday its plan to purchase 500 Tesla Semis, which will be made available to Amazon and other customers. Einride will integrate these Tesla Semis into its fleet over the next 24 months, starting in September, as announced by the company.

The operation of the Tesla Semis will be managed through Einride’s Saga AI platform, a fleet management tool aimed at providing customers the benefits of electric trucking for freight logistics without the challenges related to ownership costs and logistics.

According to Einride CEO Roozbeh Charli, this rollout further illustrates the company’s capacity to scale operations to meet its clients’ needs.

This agreement carries significant potential, contingent upon Tesla’s delivery capabilities. Tesla initially introduced the Semi concept in 2017, and after five years, which included delays from the Covid pandemic and extensive supply chain disruptions, they managed to deliver an initial lot to clients like PepsiCo.

The onset of mass production for the Tesla Semi was postponed further, with the first unit rolling off the high-volume production line in Nevada only in April 2026. Even with this milestone achieved, Tesla has adjusted its expectations for reaching true “volume production” by 2026. In its second-quarter shareholder letter, the company outlined ongoing initiatives to enhance battery production, particularly focused on its 4680 cell, which is vital for scaling production of both the Tesla Semi and the Cybertruck.

Since going public in June, Einride has been operating a fleet of approximately 200 heavy-duty electric trucks for clients such as Heineken and PepsiCo. The firm has also developed autonomous, pod-shaped trucks that notably do not feature a standard cab. The Saga AI software coordinates the operation of these vehicles, overseeing their usage, routing, and charging tasks.

The collaboration with Tesla presents tremendous opportunities for Einride. It will effectively triple the size of Einride’s fleet and enhance the attractiveness of its Saga AI software. Einride has announced that the Tesla Semis will be accessible to customers across North America, allowing the expansion of its electric freight network to key routes in California, Georgia, New Jersey, and Texas. The acquisition of the Tesla Semis is backed by third-party financing.

Moreover, this arrangement may allow Einride to transform approximately $800 million in “potential long-term annual recurring revenue under joint business plans with shippers” into tangible revenue, as per the company’s statements.

Established a decade ago, Einride has dedicated years to advancing various components of its business, from electric trucks and software to the autonomous systems within its cabless vehicles. The company is now working to scale its operations, a pursuit that has gained momentum in 2026.

Einride has also finalized an agreement with Amazon to integrate 75 of its electric heavy-duty trucks into the online retailer’s Relay freight network and to provide charging infrastructure at five U.S. locations. Additionally, Einride has acquired the EV charging company Flipturn, enabling it to offer clients a complete suite of services, incorporating electric trucks and essential charging software for efficient and reliable operations.
