ChatGPT Launches New Apple Messages Plugin for Automated Text Messaging

If you’ve ever wanted to share all your digital conversations with OpenAI, there’s exciting news: the AI research lab has unveiled a plug-in for Apple Messages that enables users to connect their Messages inbox with ChatGPT.

OpenAI outlines several benefits of this integration. With the plug-in, users can organize, analyze, or alter their messages directly within ChatGPT. Furthermore, this plug-in is compatible with Codex and ChatGPT Work, making it useful for both professional and personal purposes.

A brief advertisement introducing the new plug-in features a user asking the chatbot for suggestions on follow-up messages to send to their contacts based on yesterday’s interactions.

You can also instruct ChatGPT to delete messages, draft and send messages on your behalf, or extract information hidden within your message history.

Like many AI advancements, this feature raises privacy concerns. OpenAI informed Bloomberg that the plug-in functions locally on the user’s device and does not “create an index of all someone’s messages.” However, the exact meaning of this statement remains unclear. Regarding message sending, OpenAI recommends that users monitor ChatGPT’s actions and discourages enabling persistent approval, cautioning that doing so “removes your final chance to review a message before ChatGPT sends it as you,” according to the company.
