Meta Introduces Pocket: A New App for Vibe-Coding and Game Sharing Now Accessible to Users in the US
Meta has launched its cutting-edge gaming app, Pocket, which emphasizes vibe-coding, for users across the United States. The app, which was discreetly tested in Brazil last month, allows users to generate compact, interactive games using AI prompts presented in a scrollable feed.
This launch comes after Meta’s acquisition of the team behind the vibe-coded gaming platform, Gizmo, earlier this year. These captivating games and experiences, referred to by Meta as “gizmos,” are designed to react to touch and smartphone tilt, produce sound effects, and can include snippets of your favorite tunes.
Furthermore, users can integrate images from their camera roll or utilize the camera. The games created can be shared on user profiles, enabling others to save, remix, or share these games.
This app highlights Meta’s commitment to advancing AI creation tools, following previous projects like generating AI images with the Meta AI app and producing AI videos through an experimental app called Vibes.
With the introduction of Pocket, it becomes part of a lineup of recent standalone mobile applications from Meta. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has noted that the faster development is attributed to AI-enhanced software tools, enabling quicker testing and deployment of new ideas.
“Earlier this year, we launched Instagram Instants. We also introduced Forum, a dedicated Groups app, and Seller, a standalone Marketplace app. I expect the development of new apps to become considerably simpler,” he shared with analysts during July’s earnings call. “We intend to explore more concepts and utilize our recommendation systems for scalability.”
In addition to Instants, Forum, and the Seller app, Meta has also been testing AI-generated bedtime stories, and recently launched a Meta AI app for Mac.
As Pocket is introduced, Meta will phase out the original app acquired from Atma Sciences.
