Meta Unveils Pocket: A New App for Vibe-Coding and Game Sharing Now Accessible to U.S. Users
Meta has launched its cutting-edge gaming app, Pocket, which emphasizes vibe-coding and is now accessible to users across the United States. After a successful private testing phase in Brazil last month, this app enables users to design compact, interactive games utilizing AI-generated prompts presented in a scrollable feed.
This release comes on the heels of Meta’s acquisition of the team responsible for the vibe-coded gaming platform Gizmo earlier this year. Known as “gizmos” by Meta, these captivating games and experiences are designed to be interactive through touch and smartphone tilting, complete with sound effects and snippets of users’ favorite music.
Moreover, users can add images from their camera rolls or make use of their device’s camera. The games produced can be shared on user profiles, allowing others to save, remix, or share these distinctive creations.
This app highlights Meta’s commitment to enhancing AI creation tools, a strategy reflected in previous ventures such as the Meta AI app for generating images and the experimental application Vibes for creating AI videos.
With Pocket’s debut, Meta expands its collection of recent standalone mobile applications. CEO Mark Zuckerberg remarked that the rapid development is attributable to AI-powered software tools that facilitate quicker testing and execution of new concepts.
“Earlier this year, we launched Instagram Instants. We also introduced Forum, a dedicated Groups app, and Seller, a specialized Marketplace app. I expect that creating new applications will become significantly easier,” he shared with analysts during the July earnings call. “We aim to explore more ideas and utilize our recommendation systems for scalability.”
In addition to Instants, Forum, and the Seller app, Meta has been testing AI-generated bedtime stories and has recently launched a Meta AI application for Mac.
As Pocket gains prominence, Meta plans to gradually phase out the original app acquired from Atma Sciences.
