Minister Kubayi Alerted to Death Threat by Whistleblower in Response to Refusal to Sign Suspect Contract

Johannesburg – Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has disclosed a startling revelation that a whistleblower informed her of a conspiracy to assassinate a senior official in her department who declined to endorse dubious contracts.

“After receiving this alarming information, Minister Kubayi promptly reached out to law enforcement authorities to initiate an investigation and ensure the safety of the official involved,” the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development stated in a release provided to The Bulrushes on Saturday, 22 August 2026.

“The Minister expresses her gratitude to law enforcement agencies for their swift action in evaluating the threat and establishing measures to safeguard the official and her family.

“The investigation is currently ongoing, and we anticipate a prompt resolution to eliminate this threat once and for all.”

The department noted that the senior official’s resolve to reject wrongdoing despite facing death threats demonstrates that individuals of integrity are present in the public service.

“Corruption is not a crime without victims, and that is the understanding this senior official possesses,” Minister Kubayi stated.

“She stood firm, acting with integrity and conscientiousness, for which we owe our gratitude.  

“Whistleblowers play a vital role in our battle against corruption as they help reveal truths that might have otherwise remained hidden without their disclosures.

“Thanks to this brave whistleblower, lives were safeguarded.”
