Google’s New Fitbit Air Combines Pokémon Sleep for an Enhanced Wearable Experience

For Pokémon fans, there’s a new reason to wear a Fitbit: Google has introduced a special edition Fitbit Air tailored for Pokémon Sleep. This collaboration combines Fitbit’s health and fitness tracking features with the sleep-focused Pokémon game, celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary this year.

Launched in 2023, Pokémon Sleep turns the nightly ritual of going to bed into an interactive Pokémon adventure. Players can earn in-game rewards by sticking to their bedtime, and the quality and duration of their sleep help advance their progress in the game. You start your adventure with a sleepy Snorlax, and as you get more rest, your Snorlax gathers “Drowsy Power,” which helps attract more Pokémon for you to find.

The Fitbit Air further enriches this experience. It effortlessly connects with the Google Health app and Pokémon Sleep, allowing users to track daily metrics like movement, heart rate, and cardio load during the day, while also monitoring sleep quality and duration at night.

This isn’t the first device to link with Pokémon Sleep; the app is compatible with a variety of wearables, including the Apple Watch, several models of Fitbit, Galaxy Watch, and Google Pixel Watch. Moreover, players can participate in Pokémon Sleep without needing any wearable device.

To mark Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, this collaboration is notably creative. It turns a mundane nightly routine into an engaging experience with the franchise while offering Google a fun twist on health tracking through wearables. Additionally, Google recently teamed up with athlete Stephen Curry to create a special edition of the Pixel Watch, priced at $579, featuring a distinctive design aimed at enhancing workouts.

The limited-edition device is available for preorder at $129, with shipments starting on September 15. It will be available both online and in-store at the Google Store and Target.

In contrast, the standard Fitbit Air is priced at $99. Google unveiled the new Fitbit Air in May, showcasing a more streamlined design, improved health and fitness tracking functionalities, and an AI-powered coach that provides tailored insights based on users’ activity, sleep patterns, and wellness data.
