British Heavyweight Champion Riakporhe Points Out Moses Itauma’s Struggles with Fitness After ‘SCARY’ Loss to Filip Hrgovic
British heavyweight champion Richard Riakporhe voiced his worries regarding Moses Itauma’s concerning fitness during Saturday’s bout.
The knockout artist, who is 36 years old, was at ringside at the O2 Arena to observe the IBF world title clash with Filip Hrgovic, enjoying an up-close view of the unfolding action in Itauma’s blue corner.
The 21-year-old from Kent showcased remarkable skill in the first seven rounds, delivering a series of combinations against the 34-year-old Croatian.
However, his stamina waned following the seventh round, resulting in him being carried off on a stretcher after a punishing ninth-round onslaught.
Riakporhe, who stands at 6ft 5in and once made the cruiserweight limit of 14st 4lb, commented, “Even from the third round, he seemed to be running low on energy.”
“This sport demands top-notch strength and conditioning coaches; every member of your team should have a clear role.”

“Heavyweight boxing is entirely different; it feels like a different sport altogether.”
“When I made the move up, I completely overhauled my team, including coaches and strength and conditioning personnel.”
“You must be ready for a full 12 rounds every time. It was concerning to observe his condition in the corner – his mouth was wide open by the fourth round.”
Following his surprising defeat, a talkSPORT video surfaced in which Itauma admits that he may not have completed a full 12-round spar in preparation for the experienced Olympic bronze medalist.

Riakporhe recognized that while the strategy appeared sound in the earlier rounds, it fell apart as the fight progressed.
He remarked, “It’s unbelievable that he didn’t spar for the full 12 rounds.”
“Training camps must include that kind of preparation; otherwise, you won’t be aware of your abilities under pressure.”
“I select sparring partners who provide me with tough challenges. My body may hurt, but I value the pain because it helps me envision those demanding moments.”
“You can’t afford to exhaust your energy supply.”
Like many in the British boxing community, Riakporhe has expressed support for the young fighter and anticipates a strong comeback for him.
He stated, “There are plenty of exciting matchups ahead for him, and the boxing audience has grown more fond of Moses Itauma after this fight.”
“This is an entertainment industry, and he truly put on a show.”
