John Ternus Hints at ‘Major Launch Next Week’ in His Inaugural Memo as Apple CEO

John Ternus has officially taken over as CEO of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook, who served in that capacity for the past 15 years.

Previously the senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, Ternus steps into the CEO role during a crucial time for Apple. On September 9, the company will host its annual iPhone event, where many expect to see the launch of its first foldable iPhone. Furthermore, Apple is expected to unveil an upgraded version of its Siri AI, presenting a major opportunity to compete with chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.

“We have an important launch coming up next week that promises to be exceptional,” Ternus stated in a memo to employees on Tuesday, as reported by Bloomberg. “I’m just as excited about the future, including the innovative products we are developing and those that are yet to be imagined that we will create together.”

Rumors indicate that Apple is working on a variety of new innovations like camera-equipped AirPods, smart glasses, and a touchscreen laptop.

“It gives me great comfort to hand over the leadership to someone as insightful, talented, and capable as John,” Tim Cook told employees on his final day as CEO. “Few understand what it takes to create products that change the world quite like John does, and I am truly optimistic about his leadership.”
