Google Expands Its Virtual Try-On Shopping Tool Globally, Now Including Shoe Try-Ons

On Wednesday, Google announced the expansion of its AI-powered virtual clothing try-on feature to Australia, Canada, and Japan. Additionally, users can now virtually try on shoes as well.

This feature enables users to upload a photograph to see how different clothing items would look on them. Now, users can also visualize various pairs of shoes.

To virtually try on shoes, users just need to click on a product listing on Google, hit the “Try It On” button, and upload a full-length photo of themselves. After a short wait, they will see the shoes digitally rendered on their image, with options to save or share the resulting picture.

This rollout follows Google’s introduction of virtual clothing try-ons powered by AI two months ago. Previously, Google provided similar technology, displaying items on various models. With the new AI features, users can now visualize clothing on a virtual representation of themselves.

Google is also venturing into other areas within the virtual try-on sector. In June, the company launched an experimental application named Doppl, which employs AI to show how different outfits might look on users.

Both the newly introduced virtual try-on feature, which now encompasses shoes, and the Doppl app utilize the same generative AI technology. However, Doppl is tailored to offer a more immersive virtual try-on experience, helping shoppers refine their personal style and even generating AI-created videos to illustrate how outfits would appear in reality.

Google faces competition in this arena with major players like Walmart and Amazon also unveiling similar virtual try-on technologies.
