Ncikazi Rejects Excuses as Weather Challenge Approaches at Athlone
Mandla Ncikazi, the assistant coach of the Orlando Pirates, highlighted the necessity of securing all three points when the Buccaneers take on Stellenbosch in Tuesday’s Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium, with their sights set on the league title.
The Pirates come into this match eager to bolster their title aspirations and narrow the gap at the top of the league.
Mamelodi Sundowns currently lead the table with 64 points, while the Buccaneers sit in second place with 59 points—trailing by five points and facing a tight race as the season nears its conclusion.
This encounter marks the second league clash between these two teams this season, after the Pirates triumphed over Stellenbosch in their earlier home match. The Soweto giants are now aiming for a league double over Stellies at this crucial juncture in the title chase.
This match also holds historical importance for the Pirates, who are pursuing their first league title since the 2011/12 season.

The last visit by the Pirates to Athlone Stadium during a title race was on May 4, 2019, when Cape Town City thwarted their ambitions with a thrilling 2–2 draw.
As they prepare for yet another vital trip to Athlone, Ncikazi confirmed that the team remains focused despite the looming challenges in Cape Town.
“Our preparations are clear—three points are crucial,” he remarked.
“We’re concentrating on the process of securing those three points despite the tough conditions in Cape Town. Challenging circumstances push us to excel.
“We intend to implement our game plan effectively and outscore the opposition. With the current atmosphere at the club and the players’ preparedness, I have faith we can defeat Stellenbosch.”
A victory for the Pirates would keep their title dreams alive and maintain pressure on Sundowns at the pinnacle of the Betway Premiership table.
