Arson Hits Home of Ngizwe Mchunu, Anti-Immigrant Protest Leader
Durban – Mysterious assailants have set ablaze the uMbumbulu residence of former Ukhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mchunu, who is currently at the forefront of the anti-immigrant organization Amabhinca.
The self-styled cultural activist and commentator from KwaZulu-Natal was in Cape Town when the fire erupted on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of unknown men arriving at the home looking for Mchunu.
Neighbors informed them that Mchunu and his wife were not home at that time.
Shortly thereafter, flames engulfed Mchunu’s property, resulting in extensive damage.
Nkosi Phakel’umthakathi Ndabandaba, who took part in recent protests against immigration alongside Mchunu, confirmed that no injuries were linked to the event.
He stated that both the house and its contents were entirely consumed by the fire.
Ndabandaba suspects the attack was premeditated and suggested it might be connected to the recent demonstrations against immigrants spearheaded by Mchunu and others.
He claimed that leaders involved in anti-immigrant initiatives are increasingly becoming targets.
Some demonstrations reportedly turned violent, with unverified reports indicating potential casualties.
Nevertheless, the South African government has urged vigilance, noting that the situation, which has attracted criticism from other African nations like Nigeria and Ghana, is currently under investigation.
